In September 2005 the Powsers visited the The Sierra de Gredos in the central mountains of Spain to the west of Madrid. The area appears to be off the beaten track, but we would highly recommend it for a taste of high mountains, spectacular scenery and a sense of real Spain. The highest peak is called Almanzar and it rises to 2590 metres. There are interesting towns to visit on days off the hill. The walled city of Avila is great day out www.avilaturismo.com We stayed in the little village of Hoyas del Espino. Details of the area can be found on www.gogredos.com. The picture above is from our first day on the hill which was very sunny but surprisingly had a cold wind. Powsers posing in the picture above are Janet Ruffley, Jim Kirk, Dave Woods, Jim Bintcliffe, John Wills, Brian Barnes, Mike & Dianne Dean, Pete Webb, Vivianne Bintcliffe & Kate Norris |

Our base was in the village of Hoyos del Espino and was ideal for exploring the Gredos. |
