Doing what the Powsers do best

“A Cold New Year’s Day Great End”  One from the archive: After spending a lively New Year’s Eve in the Wasdale Head Inn, Dave Mercer, Kathleen Hughes, and Charlotte Coleman blow the cob webs away with an exhilarating day Powsering in the mountains.

“Northern Pinnacles” Scotland.  Another from the archives …  All our yesterdays …  Whilst U2 were storming the charts, a five man team of Powsers doing what the Powsers do best; climbing the classic Northern Pinnacles of Mullach an Rathain (on the Liathach Range, Torridon), in tricky Easter conditions. As light fails, (because the lads started late with hangovers), the two lead climbers Pete Neumann and John Hardcastle forge the route, with Chris Revell and Martin Peck belaying just above the 4th Pinnacle. Where are they now? Pete lives in Spain, John lives in Hoy (Orkneys), Chris lives in Ulster, Martin concentrates on his model railways and Yozzer (the photographer) is still getting out.

John Hardcastle playing like a Powser in superb conditions at Yellowslacks, Glossop, Derbyshire in the days when winter had snow.

A chance meeting with the late Chris Brasher (centre) on Y Garn summit for (left to right) John Hughes, Sue Clarke, Kathy Hughes and Brian Barnes.

John Hughes (aka Yozzer) Powsering around on Fairbrook Naze close to Kinder Scout in Derbyshire.

It ain’t rock and roll but they like it!  Eric and Bernard pole dancing.

Archie will be a big kid when he grows up!

Frank Wood has a passion for fine ales.  We can’t understand why Shaws think he is ‘Old’ and ‘Stable’ though!
